Peru’s Ex-President, Alberto Fujimori (who resigned after fleeing to Japan [where he has citizenship as well] and later, faxed in his resignation!) was placed under house arrest, in a Santiago suburb, after a prosecutor recommended he be extradited to Peru to face charges of ill corruption and human rights abuses. Chile’s Supreme Court has not ruled yet on the recommendation. “Fuji-Terror,” nicknamed by friends and family, served as Peru’s President for 10 years. He is accused of employing death squads; taking money from other countries to support his private ventures, however, he remains a popular figure in Peruvian politics–then and now!
