Outcry as 84-year-old hit with pepper spray

pepperfun.jpg

SEATTLE (AP) — A downtown march and rally in support of the Occupy Wall Street movement turned briefly chaotic as police scattered a crowd of rowdy protesters — including a pregnant 19-year-old and an 84-year-old activist — with blasts of pepper spray.

Protest organizers denounced the use of force, saying that police indiscriminately sprayed the chemical irritant at peaceful protesters.

The Occupy Seattle movement released a written statement late Tuesday expressing support for “a 4-foot 10-inch, 84-year-old woman, a priest and a pregnant woman who as of this writing is still in the hospital.”

Dorli Rainey is an activist who has supported liberal causes in the Seattle area for decades. A photo showing Rainey being cared for by fellow activists in the immediate aftermath of the police incident appeared on news websites around the world.

Seattle police spokesman Jeff Kappel said he didn’t have specifics on the Rainey incident, but he said pepper spray is “is not age specific. No more dangerous to someone who is 10 or someone who is 80.”

He added, that if it were harmful, “we probably wouldn’t be using pepper spray if that was the case.” …full story

Scott Brown is Hating It: Caught Plagiarizing Elizabeth Dole

October 15th, 2011

scott-brown-elizabeth-dole.jpg

Apparently, Scott Brown’s Web site included a personal value statement that was copied, verbatim, from the Web site of Elizabeth Dole. Oh, I’m sorry, “inadvertently transferred without being rewritten.”

Brown’s Web statement:

I was raised to believe that there are no limits to individual achievement and no excuses to justify indifference. From an early age, I was taught that success is measured not in material accumulations, but in service to others. I was encouraged to join causes larger than myself, to pursue positive change through a sense of mission, and to stand up for what I believe.

Minus the opening words “I am Mary and John Hanford’s daughter,” this is exactly what Elizabeth Dole said at the launch of her campaign in 2002.

So he’s hating it.

Infomercial King from the 90’s Offs Himself

October 5th, 2011

Don Lapre — the boyish infomercial shyster who lulled millions of insomniacs into pants-wetting states of catatonia via the relentless repetition of the phrase “tiny classified ads!” — has committed suicide inside an Arizona prison cell. Lapre, 47, was facing 41 counts of conspiracy, mail fraud, wire fraud and promotional money laundering in connection with his latest snake oil scam, “The Greatest Vitamin in the World,” which parted 220,000 suckers with $52 million.

Faced with anywhere from five to 25 years in a federal prison, Lapre instead opted to to take his own life — which TMZ reports involved “self-mutilation” and the discovery of a “large amount of blood” in his cell on Sunday morning.

Lapre’s personal website bears what might now be considered a suicide note. In it, he insists, “I have been accused of something I did not do,” and that he was facing a legal battle “that will for sure destroy what energy I have left inside.” Beneath it are photos of the homes his pyramid-scheming bought (”never stop dreaming…”), and, disturbingly, the young children he left behind (”My 3 best friends:-)”). New Rules for the Hating It on Facebook: You can actually see who defriended you now

By Mike Flacy - Digital Trends – Sat, Sep 24, 2011

Assuming that a user has already enabled the new Timeline profile page on Facebook, there’s a feature built into the Timeline that allows to users to view how many friends were added each year. Go to the Timeline page and choose a year on the right side of the page. Scroll through the posts and locate the “Friends” box. Within the Timeline, Facebook groups actions that occurred over the course of the year including new friendships, photos uploaded, events attended and new likes. On the “Friends” box, click the “Made X New Friends” link and this should load a pop-up window that lists all friendships created during that year.

Scroll through the list and anyone that terminated the friendship will appear with an “Add Friend” button rather than a “Friends” button. However, the “Add Friend” could also mean that the user terminated the friendship. Users that deleted their profiles at some point over the years won’t appear on this list and users that have been blocked won’t appear here as well. For instance, an ex-girlfriend or ex-boyfriend won’t appear within this list if the blocking feature was enabled to completely cut out that person from a user’s social network….full article

Hating it at Bernies: Two Idiots Drive Around with Friend-Corpse

September 16th, 2011

weekend-at-bernies.png

If at any point you find yourself about to emulate a Jonathan Silverman movie — don’t.

“Weekend at Bernie’s” is a 1989 cult classic; it is not a blueprint for an actual night of fun and shenanigans. But don’t tell that to Robert Young and Mark Rubinson, two Colorado men who thought it was a smart idea to honor their deceased friend by defaming his corpse Bernie-style.

Young claims to have found his 43-year-old friend Jeffrey Jarrett deceased in Jarrett’s Denver home. Young, along with his 25-year-old cohort Rubinson, then placed Jarrett’s corpse in the back of an SUV and hit the town.

Young and Rubinson hit up multiple bars and used Jarrett’s credit cards to pay the tabs. Additionally, they spent $400 dollars of Jarrett’s money at a gentleman’s club. The worst part? Jarrett’s corpse was in the car the whole time.

At the end of the night, Young and Rubinson were considerate enough to notify authorities of Jarrett’s death. What good friends.

Also (and we have to ask), where was that guy looking when they took his mugshot?
